Serving Home Birthing Families in Northeast Ohio
As your Midwife, I will work by your side as you prepare to give birth; present in each moment with a spirit of love and compassion. I’ll provide the emotional, educational, and physical support you need not only during labor, but throughout your pregnancy and postpartum as well. I am currently serving an area roughly 45-50 min radius from Mantua, OH. The bulk of my practice is located in the Akron area. I do not generally serve Cleveland or areas west of Cleveland. I no longer serve the Wooster/Orrville area for new clients.

2025 Availability
If I am listed as unavailable, anyone birthing on these dates with me would have a backup, so I generally try to avoid taking anyone who might reasonably birth in that time frame or encourage an alternate primary midwife.

Home Birth Services
All pregnancies are different, with each experience being special and unique in its own way. That’s why I work with you to customize my support services, always striving to meet your needs and expectations. I invite you to view the services I offer below, and get in touch with me to schedule a free initial consultation.
Prenatal Visits
Care in your space on your terms
From our initial meeting all the way through your pregnancy and delivery, I take the time to get to know you, your concerns and your needs, all while helping you take ownership of your pregnancy and birth experience. We meet in the comfort of your home for prenatal care, and I’m available to contact by phone/email for urgent questions/issues throughout your pregnancy. Care is tailored to your needs and includes assessing the physical, emotional, and social indicators for a healthy pregnancy and offering guidance in keeping those within healthy parameters. We also talk about preparation for the birth and postpartum including birth supplies and any additional support you may need.
Birthing Support
Guiding you through the stages of labor
Throughout prenatal care, we will discuss when to call in labor so I can join you in a timely manner.  When you are ready for my physical presence, I will be there to provide you with continuous emotional and physical support as desired while also assessing indicators of well being and answering any and all questions you may have so you may make informed choices as necessary.  I do my best to tailor support to each client's needs. I am supportive of using water for labor and birth. My in-person support continues through the birth and first few/several hours immediate postpartum to ensure that bonding, breastfeeding, and other needs are met.
Postpartum Support
Supporting recovery from birth and a breastfeeding relationship
I will visit a number of times postpartum in order to ensure that postpartum healing is occurring as expected and to ensure that breastfeeding is well-established, referring out to additional support persons as necessary. As a midwife, I promise to offer support to you and your family before, during, and after birth. I will stay in close contact in order to routinely check how you’re doing physically and emotionally and offer support and guidance through the first six weeks postbirth.
About Me
Jess Brown, Certified Professional Midwife
I've been serving birthing families in various capacities since 2002 and as an independent midwife since 2012. I do my best to be a quiet, unobtrusive, and calm presence at a birth, and I also like to keep up the knowledge base required to be a skilled provider. I recently graduated from Aviva Romm's Integrative and Functional Medicine Professional Training Program and am currently enrolled in the Herbal Medicine for Women program. I am currently working on the Midwifery Bridge Certificate and am an active member of the Ohio Midwives Alliance. A drive to learn keeps me constantly trying new things in life, and I have several hobbies and interests outside of midwifery such as crafting, woodworking, gardening, cooking, outdoor activities, Scouting, travel, and just generally enjoying my family. I have four children, all born with the help of midwives and three of the born at home. When I'm not supporting families I could be found doing just about anything.

Contact
Please read through the above information to get an idea of what my care offers. Due to the number of inquiries I receive, I am currently doing all initial consultations by digital means (FaceTime, Google Meet, or Zoom). Due to the volume of calls inquiring about home birth services at the moment, and the fact that I am taking care of birthing families, please allow at least 72 hours for me to return your call/inquiry. Please do not text me with inquiries about services, as I reserve text messaging only for current clients with urgent issues. You may call during weekday business hours but the best way to get response is by filling out the following form with your preferred method of return contact (either phone or email) in the message area with the best time of day to reach you by phone.
